Definitive Technology BP-9040 Tower Speaker, Built-in Powered 8” Subwoofer
Definitive Technology's BP-9040 is a bipolar tower with front and rear driver arrays and a built-in powered 8-inch subwoofer with dual 8-inch bass radiators. A higher-priced pick for rooms without space for a separate sub.

What we liked
- + Integrated powered 8-inch subwoofer with dual 8-inch bass radiators, so a separate subwoofer is optional
- + Forward-Focused Bipolar array: front 1-inch tweeter and two 4.5-inch mids plus a rear tweeter and mid for wide dispersion
- + Built-in docking port accepts the optional A90 height speaker for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X
Trade-offs
- - The powered bass section means each tower needs mains power nearby as well as speaker wire
- - A90 height modules are sold separately, and the price is well above the budget towers in this guide
